Marjan Šimenc, Mojca Štraus: 50th anniversary of the Coleman Report

Nov 2016 | School Field Seminar

It’s been a month and we invite you to the second School Field Seminar this academic year. This time we want to mark our meeting with an anniversary that cannot be overlooked in the context of educational research and development of educational systems: the 50th anniversary of the so-called of the Coleman Report. It is a study whose basic purpose was to assess the issue of equal educational opportunities for children of different races, colors, religions, or nationalities in the context of the United States, and its leader was Professor James Coleman (1926-1995).

The study had a strong impact on educational research on a global scale, and it probably goes without saying that its relevance has not decreased to this day, but rather increased. The summer issue of the CEPS Journal, which is published at our faculty and in which authors from Slovenia and abroad discuss individual aspects of the Coleman report, was dedicated to this anniversary. For the introduction to our current meeting, we invited the author of one of the articles, dr. Marjan Šimenac from the Faculty of Education / Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana and Dr. Mojca Štraus from the Pedagogical Institute. We also invited the others who will participate according to their possibilities. On our website, you can find the entire issue (CEPS-Journal, 2016/2) with all articles in open access, which can serve as preparation for the discussion after the introductory lecture.

We therefore kindly invite you to join us on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in room 026 at the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana, Kardeljeva pl. 16, Ljubljana.
Welcome and greetings!
