Lisbeth Lundahl: School choice, competition and privatization: The Swedish case and some Nordic outlooks

Apr 2015 | School Field Seminar

We invite you to the spring School Field Seminar, where we will once again host the internationally renowned Swedish researcher Prof. Lisbeth Lundahl (Umeå University) after four years. Her introductory lecture is entitled School choice, competition and privatization: The Swedish case and some Nordic outlooks.

This is a topic that concerns various aspects of education and raises numerous questions, particularly related to the ongoing processes of the so-called “neoliberalization” of education. According to a generalized idea, Nordic education systems are said to have successfully avoided these dangers, but our guest will largely refute these ideas and clearly present the problems that the northern part of Europe is facing in this context today. We are confident that the introductory lecture will be followed, as usual, by a lively discussion, in which we will ask questions and seek answers together with our Swedish guest.

I would like to invite you to join us on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 6:00 PM in room 026 at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, Kardeljeva pl. 16, Ljubljana.

As usual, to stimulate discussion, we are publishing a guest article Educational marketization the Swedish way, published in the journal Education Inquiry (Sept. 2013).
