Karmen Pižorn, Tina Rutar Leban: European survey on language competences (ESLC 2011)

Nov 2012 | School Field Seminar

We invite you to the second School Field Seminar this academic year. This time, we are joined by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Karmen Pižorn from the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana and Dr. Tina Rutar Leban from the Pedagogical Institute in Ljubljana. The guests will present the results of the European Survey of Language Competences (ESLC 2011), which was held as part of the activities of the project Quality Assurance and Assessment in Education – Evaluation of Education (co-financed by the European Social Fund of the European Union and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport).

The main goal was to investigate the level of knowledge of students in foreign languages at the end of compulsory education in 16 countries or individual regions that participated in the survey. Using the results of the survey, the European Commission has developed the European Indicator of Language Competences, which will enable the monitoring of progress in knowledge in line with the conclusions of the European Council at the Barcelona meeting in 2002. We are convinced that the topic is important in the broader perspective of research in our field and that you will actively join the discussion that will follow the introductory presentation.
